GROWTH HACKING FRAMEWORK WORKSHOP
SEAN ELLIS | Founder @ GROWTH HACKERS
Who is Sean Ellis
Sean Ellis coined the term "Growth Hacking" and is considered the founder of the worldwide Growth Hacking movement. He developed and applied Growth Hacking at companies like Dropbox, Eventbrite, LogMeIn, and Lookout, which led to breakout growth for these companies (all worth billions of dollars today). Sean is also co-author of "Hacking Growth", which has been translated into 16 languages, and founder of GrowthHackers.com.
He is an experienced entrepreneur and founded Qualaroo (a customer insight company with clients such as Uber, Intuit, Starbucks, Amazon) and served as CEO until its acquisition by a private equity firm.
Today Sean helps companies around the globe accelerate customer and revenue growth through workshops, keynote presentations and select advising roles. His work has been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, WIRED, Fast Company, Inc.com, TechCrunch and on MSNBC.
Who and why should attend
Growth Hacking is about accelerating sustainable business growth through rapid experimentation in product development, marketing and user experience. Sean’s Breakout Growth Workshop will help you and your cross-functional team of 2 to 5 people apply growth hacking directly to your business.
The workshop is intended for companies that have achieved product/market fit, ranging from startups to later stage corporates whose growth is often restricted by entrenched functional silos and legacy execution habits. While most businesses want to replicate the growth hacking approach used by Silicon Valley’s fastest growing startups, many teams struggle to implement it in their own organization.
A limited number of companies are included in each workshop so Sean can provide hands-on help to your team to overcome the typical challenges of Growth Hacking. His insights are based on lessons he has learned applying Growth Hacking in the early days of many well-known startups and helping to drive growth transformation at successful enterprises like Microsoft and eBay.

Keynote: How the World’s Fastest-Growing Startups are Achieving Breakout Success
Sean Ellis | Founder @ GROWTH HACKERS
Growth hacking is helping startups disrupt some of the most powerful businesses on the planet. It is about accelerating sustainable business growth through rapid experimentation in product development, marketing, and user experience. While most businesses want to replicate the growth hacking approach used by Silicon Valley’s fastest-growing startups, many teams struggle to implement it in their own organizations.
Sean Ellis coined the term growth hacking after using it to drive breakout growth at Dropbox, Eventbrite, and LogMeIn and has helped hundreds of cross-functional teams around the world apply it directly to their businesses.
In this presentation, Sean will share the key advantages of this approach, how you should analyze and understand your overall growth engine and how to align your team around a scientific process for improving performance across all elements of your growth engine.
He’ll provide several new examples from today’s breakout growth startups and give you actionable steps for getting started with growth hacking or taking your existing growth hacking efforts to the next level.
Keynote: Everything breaks at hyperspeed - and what each of us can learn from it
Luciana Lixandru | Partner @ Accel
Companies growing at hyper-speed such as UiPath or Deliveroo have extraordinary growth pains, up to the point when everything seems to break. Yet, a few important principles help such companies go further.
In her keynote, Luciana explores the fundamental elements that make companies, products and teams successful.
Talk: How to Grow A Startup - The Foolproof Formula for Finding Product-Market Fit
Sean Sheppard | Founder @ GrowthX & GrowthX Academy
In today's marketplace it is easier to start a company than it is to grow one.
Sean will walk you through the foolproof formula for finding product-market fit used to find the truth about where your product fits in a market, create a functional learning organization out of the team pursuing that truth and determine if predictable, profitable revenue is possible at scale.
Talk: Humans before Spiders - the lost art of meaningful content
Dave Collins | SEO & Content Marketing @ Software Promotions
The web is being filled with pointless content that reinforce the sub-mediocrity norms. Yet taking a stand against this brain pollution is surprisingly easy.
In this talk Dave will show you a simple strategy that's good for your visitors, good for business and great for feeding Google's spiders. 100% practical, actionable and organic!
Laurentiu Ghenciu | Vice President Sales @ 2Checkout
Acquisition is now just the beginning of the customer’s relationship with your brand. Each stage that follows it — activation, up-sell and cross-sell, upgrades, renewals and retention — represents a distinct moment that impacts revenue. Most companies miss the complex links between the stages that make up the Subscription Commerce Lifecycle.
While each stage presents an opportunity for revenue uplift, it can just as easily end in leakage and lost revenue. This session aims to highlight some of the most successful strategies that help subscription based businesses to seamlessly monetize revenue moments while proactively minimizing revenue leakage.
Screen reader support enabled.
Talk: Running experiments. How to move from failure to failure to your biggest success
Dan Toma | Founder @ OUTCOME
No idea survives first customer contact like no military plan services first contact with the enemy. So working on your idea should start with testing the most critical assumptions first.
Join this interactive session to learn how you can perform business experiments like a scientists. Follow the various examples Dan's going to bring to learn how to kill your ideas early before the market gets to kill them later.
Talk: What gets measured gets managed. Let's do it right
Udit Batra | Product Owner @ BOOKING.COM
Using the right data to inform a product strategy is a make-or-break for companies.
We’ll talk about using metrics to close the feedback loop on a strategy, tying in different datasets into a coherent story, and using proxies when scaling up in a data-scarce environment. We’ll cover how to execute effectively on data-driven product strategies, and what to watch out for. How things come together when it’s done right, and how they go hilariously wrong when you miss an angle.
The goal is to - through this talk - arm you with the knowledge of how to make data-driven decisions… about data!
In his investment career, Carlos has had the chance to meet thousands of teams, but has picked some of the best to invest in them such as UiPath, Revolut, Transferwise and many others.
We discuss with Carlos what are the signs he looks for in identifying the best teams and products in the early stages, and what are the most common flaws that are turning hard work into bad results.

Talk: Building a data-based culture
Marcin Grodzicki | Chief Product Officer @ SOTRENDER
Culture is what binds people together. It defines who we are as a group and which direction we’re going. Since we’re building products and businesses it is important that culture doesn’t only give us a warm and fuzzy feeling by being a part of something but also that it drives us towards a real impact. Data can describe our baseline, speed and direction, as well as resolve debates faster, which is why a data based culture is the winning strategy for products and teams that build them.
Talk: Growth Strategies to Design Successful Products
Paolo Ertreo | Product Designer @ DROPBOX
Building new products or features can be characterized by a great amount of ambiguity and a high risk of failure.
Paolo, a product designer who focuses on Growth at Dropbox, will share methods for reducing ambiguity, minimizing risk and validating hypotheses to expedite learning and unlock business opportunity at scale
Most entrepreneurs fail to build a successful business because they start at the end. And it’s an end they envision — not necessarily what the market wants or needs.
It’s not their fault. It’s how popular culture, silicon valley (the series), and entrepreneur magazines headlines teach us.
I will show how in order to drastically improve your chances to success you have to first Sell the results so you can get real-life validation, then Service the customer to really understand the problem and to tweak your offering, and only then Scale the business, once you know your efforts won’t be in vain.
To build products that are valuable, usable and feasible you need to be client obsessed and empower all your team members to contribute. Story mapping is a simple framework to learn, yet extremely powerful if put to good use. It will help you capture user journeys, plan feature release and build shared understanding with all the important actors.
Talk: Confessions of a Professional Cat Herder: Pushing Change
Bogdan Lucaciu | Chief Technology Officer @ ADORE ME
Fast growth takes organisations by storm. Teams will be stuck in habits that worked well in the past but are not serving the new realities. Some people will notice an itch and think "this is wrong, somebody should do something about it". Who is that magical somebody? Does this sound familiar? How can you move things, drive coherent and sustainable change while preserving a sense of autonomy and self-governance in your teams?
Bogdan is at the helm of the tech team in one of the fastest growing companies in the US, and has stories to share. The talk will cover tools and tricks that will make yourself, your team and your organisation more adaptive and more equipped to the inherent uncertainty that comes with growth. Key words: change management, OKRs, decentralized teams.
Panel: From East to West - how the best founders scale their companies globally

Disruption

Talk: An intrapreneur’s story of leading and failing at disruptive innovation
Hannah Keartland | Innovation Consultant @ ex-Cancer Research UK
“Disruption” is a buzzword across many companies and industries. As Director of Innovation at the UK’s largest fundraising charity (> £600m income per year) I was responsible for establishing the organisation’s response to disruption of the UK charity sector.
I established a disruptive innovation unit led by three co-founders. They took an experimental test-and-learn approach to develop and evolve an operating model for disruptive innovation by working on real problems and developing real in-market solutions with target customers.
Despite receiving hugely positive feedback about our approach from across the charity sector and the innovation space, the project was stopped after a year. I will share our story and our learnings.
In the last years we have supported large organizations and startups into pursuing their ideas by eliminating the numerous obstacles and impediments of conventional software development processes.
Every digital and nondigital organization are in the space of innovating trough some kind of digital product or process; moreover, most of the nondigital organization at a certain moment are envolved to the point where the only way to continue with growing is to innovate, usually, only space left for innovation is to utilize digitalization. However, an enormous challenge is to provoke innovation.
Most of the innovative processes and products are created from dozens of ideas and collective thoughts rather than the single moment of the enlightenment, we will share how we effectively provoke those thoughts and ideas furthermore how effectively we validate them while avoiding sinking in them.

Keynote: Positioning in Crowded Markets - How to Make any Offering Obviously Awesome
April Dunford | Positioning Expert, Author and CEO @ AMBIENT STRATEGY
We operate in markets that are insanely crowded, and struggle to reach customers that are overwhelmed with choices. Positioning is more important than ever yet most companies fail to strategically choose a market position for their products.
In this talk, I will show you how to assess your own positioning and what to do if it's weak.
I will walk you through a process for positioning around your strengths and how to strategically choose a market context that makes those strengths obvious to customers.
Lastly, I will show a series of examples of startups that unlocked rapid revenue growth through a strategic shift in positioning.
Keynote: Jobs-To-Be-Done & the Power of Why – Understanding Why People Hire (and Fire) Your Product
Bob Moesta | Founder, President & CEO @ RE-WIRED GROUP
Innovation – new and better products, services and markets – is the real growth engine for most companies, big and small.
But despite all their resources, sophisticated processes, expansive consumer research and deep expertise, most companies end up managing innovation like it is simply a game of luck.
Bob Moesta challenges audiences to not settle for probabilities; innovators must discover why the customer wants the product in the first place, as well as what kind of product would be better at accomplishing the intended task.
Moesta gives organizations of all types – from B2B and B2C companies to non-profits and the public sector – a broad overview of the Jobs theory and its power to transform organizations into innovation leaders. He brings the concept to life with real examples and case studies from across industries.
Products may be or become complicated for many reasons, and teams are often asked to make them “simpler and better.” How do we identify when and why something is complicated, and how can we make it simpler?
David will talk about methods to make products and experiences simpler, some of the considerations and decisions we may face when tackling complication, and look at some examples of products that made themselves simpler without sacrificing features and functionality.
Courage. We need more of it. Good Products are more about courage than genius - they stand for something. They are miss-understood at first. Genius is only apparent in retrospect.
Product Building is a Habit, the same way that anything is. Releasing early is allows you to benchmark your starting position. People are complex and you can not predict behaviour. Our first plane bared little resemblance to a modern Boeing - it looked more like a hipster toy, so start with it and make smart decisions.
Research by CB Insights, Forbes and others, shows that 25-30% of startups fail because of "people issues" - wrong team; poor culture etc, compared to only 10% that fail because they run out of money.
My role at SOSV is to arm founders with tools and frameworks to help them build collaborative, creative and committed teams. In this session you will learn how the likes of Microsoft, NASA & MIT build successful teams; how to appreciate the diversity of mindsets that is essential in a great team; and why most founders never end up running their own companies. We have done this for over 800 startups at SOSV's global accelerators, in China, USA, Europe.

Trevor Hatfield | CEO and Founder @ INTURACT
Whether you are just starting your business or working on scaling, growing your customer base is essential to the success of any SaaS business. One of the most important places to start is by tracking the SaaS metrics that matter most.

Talk: Lessons Learned in Getting Your Ideal Customers & Keeping Them
Valentin Radu | CEO and Founder @ OMNICONVERT
Bombarded with opportunities, features, partnerships, and KPIs, you can easily get distracted from what really matters: customer happiness.
In this session, Valentin will reveal the hiccups, the struggle and the mistakes we've gone through at Omniconvert, in order to find our ideal customer profile.
Talk: The Product-Community Loop: Discovery, Validation, Growth
Chris Massey | Product lead @ Mind the Product
Product success is measured in numbers, but it's driven by humans - both inside & outside your company. By finding and engaging with your community on their own terms, you'll gain richer insights to build a better product, and empower a legion of advocates to help you scale & grow. With clear examples, straightforward frameworks & careful planning, your product evolution and growth can be super-charged.

How do you build a successful company? Identify a problem and solve it. But all too often founders become obsessed with their solution and lose sight of the problem. In his talk, Michael Perry will discuss how being product obsessed can be a recipe for failure. In this very open and honest session, Michael will share how his early experiences led to this breakthrough realisation, resulting in his founding and selling his own successful company. He'll share how, since selling that company to Shopifyand joining them in 2016, they have achieved record growth by maintaining their focus on the problem over the solution.
